HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

Your wedding is one of the biggest days of your lives and you want to pick someone you match with that will document it. Here are a few things you can consider when looking for your wedding photographer.

WHAT’S IMPORTANT

1/ Figure out the style of photography you like

Do some homework and look around at what kind of style you like the most. Do you prefer one that is bright with a lot of saturated colors, or do you prefer the warmer look with more of the golden touch to it. Once you have found a handful of photographers whose aesthetics match up with what you are looking for contact them to see if they are available for you wedding date and ask for their rates. If the ones you're interested in are available on your date and if their fees are within your budget, then you should schedule initial meetings.

2/ Interview the photographers - see if you click

You want to feel comfortable with your photographer when your wedding day comes around. Personality can be a big factory, you don’t want to feel awkward or nervous when they come around and are following you around. So definitely try to schedule a phone call or meet up with them to see how you click.

3/ Discuss the fee

Some photographers' fees include everything including albums, prints, and high-resolution images (saved on a disc or thumb drive); others have a flat or hourly rate, then charge you à la carte for any pictures or albums you want. Many photographers offer a price list that details several different packages they offer at different price points. Make sure that you understand what's included. Ask how long the photographer will spend with you (seven to nine hours is ideal) .

A tip

Also inquire about when you can expect to receive everything, from a sneak peek of images (some photographers can give you a handful within a few days) to prints (usually up to three months) to your album.

4/ Go with your gut

Once you have talked to your candidates and evaluated each one it’s time to make your choice. Don’t forget you will be spending an entire day with your photography so you should feel comfortable with them. Do you and your fiancé click with them?
